Academic qualifications and certificates must be submitted together with an official translation, in accordance with the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MAECI).

Legalization of documents is required to certify their authenticity and can be obtained from the Italian Embassy or Consulate in the country where the qualification was issued.

If the country is a signatory to the Hague Convention (1961), legalization is replaced by an Apostille, issued by the competent local authority.

As an alternative to legalization or apostille, it is possible to submit a Statement of Verification of the foreign qualification issued by CIMEA (paid service), by creating an account on MyDiplome. A video tutorial (in English) is also available.

Legalization or Apostille is not required if the qualification was obtained in countries that are signatories to specific international agreements:
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Ireland (Brussels Convention 1987), Germany (Rome Convention 1969), Latvia (for documents issued after 31/10/2010), Luxembourg, Netherlands (including Aruba and former Dutch Antilles), Poland, and Portugal.
